Each of us processes information about the coronavirus pandemic very individually. Sensitive people are afraid, worry about themselves or their loved ones. Likewise, the step between taking responsibility and panic have only a very small one. It's a very, very narrow ridge.
Panic and Responsibility
First of all: the threat of the new Covid-19 virus is real, no one can deny it any more.
With its incubation period of up to two weeks, with a high infection rate at the same time, this novel corona virus strain is a virological nightmare, the spread of which can hardly be stopped.
Exactly a week ago I wrote my first little post about the Corona virus on Instagram - I got a lot of ridicule and malicious messages. A week later, fewer and fewer people are laughing and even two excuses have come back. I do not judge anyone, because for all of us it is a new situation that we must prepare for together. Many were simply ignorant. I am not a doctor, a virologist, an epidemiologist, nor a scientist, but just a human being, like you and me. We cannot really assess this situation.
However, we can certainly judge that the horror scenario is so likely that we have to take preventive action. I believe that we should make preparations, mentally adjust ourselves accordingly and we should also act radically in this.
And if you make your decision, please follow it consistently. That is the most important thing.
You have to decide for yourself whether you support your government's actions, consistently and radically, to make preventive measures. If not, then you know what is going to happen to us. Considering that the number of infected persons, under undisturbed conditions, doubles every three days, this means that the monthly increase is a thousandfold (!) and in two months millions of times (!!).
People who don't show insight, have to go jogging in groups or meet in large associations for barbecues – they have to talk to them. We are currently taking over the police. But we too can talk, with the necessary distance, but we can. Only in this way can they understand it and also show insight.
But back to the definition: What is actually panic?
Many people use this word and actually have no idea what it actually means. To put it briefly, we could describe it in just three words. People who panic react irrationally, illogically and chaotically. Such behaviour and illogical thinking are caused by external circumstances whose character is threatening.
How does this affect such a serious threat from Covid-19??
Over the last few days, I have been watching more and more people, including many bloggers, who have been confronted with this topic. Many of these bloggers wrote that people are impossible and just unnecessarily panicked. And this is only because they go shopping or because you hear that there is not enough mouthguard, disinfection, etc.
Many people feel that when people shop more in times like these, they are as panicked and unsolicited. Some were in the shops and even photographed or filmed people shopping "panicked" (at this point I wonder what they did themselves? Probably also bought, or not?).
Ok, I've always wanted to study medication and help people, but I never finished my doctorate. However, my common sense tells me that this behavior is absolutely normal and rational. In a dangerous situation such as Covid-19, where everything is new to us, governments also hesitate a little helplessly (because they have never been in such a situation), constrained by curfews for our protection, it is quite normal for people to try to prepare well. No, it is our duty to prepare ourselves and also to ensure that the family is safe. At least with food.
Some need to worry only about themselves, but others have responsibility for a large family. For me, when I buy a food stock of 4 weeks, there is no mention of hamsters. I see it more as a sign of responsibility for his loved ones and also as a protection for everyone, if they don't go out every day to get fresh buns. For me, this behavior is logical and rational and not irrational, as in a panic. We are all now in a situation where, for various reasons, we will be at home for a long time. It is therefore perfectly normal to replenish its food stocks and everyday items. This behaviour is not a sign of panic for me. On the contrary, such behaviour is in some way even effective, in the circumstances. In any case, I don't think it's up to anyone to film and photograph other people without questioning the background. Especially here in the eastern states, for example, the families are sometimes quite large, because they all live together. Many in these countries can only dream that everyone has their own home at the time of 18. So this can happen that a family sometimes includes 6 or 7 adults. Because retirement homes, where the old people are beautifully deported, there are also very sparse in the east. So then you buy for 7-8 people – the goods add up and the shopping carts get really full. But to talk about hamsters, I think that's wrong. Defaming people online through videos, even more wrong. Maybe someone is also shopping for the disabled neighbour, or is it splitting up the shopping among their family? Shame on anyone who posted and shared such videos and photos.
At this point, however, I would also like to say, of course, that everything we do must be done with moderation and purpose. Not only in Corona times. Everything we do should have a rational and real justification. It's perfectly fine that people want to prepare and now put 2 -4 packs of flour in their purchases and buy some durable foods or canned food. However, it is not quite okay and also far from reality when they buy 20 – 30kg packs of flour. This behaviour jeopardises the availability of food or even medicines for people who need it. So think rationally, prepare and build reserves yes , but without hamstering.
The question of fear
It's totally natural to think and feel a little fear. I think it would be almost "hilarious" if we had no concerns at all, given such a situation. Fear, tightness, insecurity and some worries are a normal part of the emotional equipment that a person possesses. We must remember that we have a wide range of feelings, all of which are justified. They have a negative pole, but so do their positive poles. We all prefer to feel what is on the positive side of our emotional spectrum. For example, enthusiasm, joy, enthusiasm, optimism. But we also have to live with the fact that our human emotionality also includes negative emotions. These include fear, tightness, a feeling of helplessness, pessimism, but also impulses to aggression or anger. This is all part of the human emotional equipment. And all these emotions are triggered directly with the situation in which a person finds himself - and individually differently.
What should I do if I am afraid
Fear and narrowness are very important. It is not for nothing that they have developed with us human beings. Tightness and fear have a very important, protective and self-sustaining effect. Even if we are .B at night on dangerous roads or in the dark forest, where there is a risk of hitting a Predator, we feel a certain fear or tightness, because the situation seems objectively threatening to us. We feel something similar now in the pandemic of the Corona virus.
Anyone who feels fear or tight simply reacts to what is happening. This is not a manifestation of panic. Nor is it a manifestation of madness. It's a totally normal reaction that everyone has to try to deal with as best they can. It is true: some people are more sensitive and such a situation or prolonged anxiety or tightness can be much more intense in these individuals.
In this case, it may be better to take one of the following measures. You shouldn't be sprinkled with news all day long. On TV, on the web, on mobile phones... Many then get the feeling that it is too much, that it crushes you.
You often get a misleading and distorted picture that everything around us seems to be negative. In addition, feelings of stress and panic also multiply. For these people, who have a problem in getting their right way in this situation and feel fear and narrowness from it, it is clearly better to seek help. These can also be relatives, for example, with whom they can talk, inform or even distract about the situation. Currently only by phone, but it helps.
In situations like this Covid-19, we often say that people show their true face. The situation gets either the best or the worst out of man. Many have written that e.B. people in shops are angry with each other, greedy, rude, pushing each other, etc. But I have to say that I have experienced it in a very different way. Here in Slovakia (I am unfortunately separated from Mr.Bag by the closing of borders, he is here in Tyrol I am here), everyone tries to help everyone. My mum and cousins sew through tons of mouthmasks all day and all night. Unpaid is understood to be.The neighbors try to help each other with everything that goes – respecting the necessary distance so that you really don't spread this corona virus. Neighbours, etc., all look at the elderly so that they have nowhere to go, do shopping, etc. Everyone down here in Slovakia is a role model, trying to be a role model for others. I never thought that one day I would be so happy instead of being in Austria in Slovakia. The warmth and cohesion of the Slovaks in this situation is unbelievable. Perhaps this is a situation that will bring us as a society (by which I mean whole world, I have always felt connected to the whole world) closer together, because only we can get to grips with the problem together. At this point, I am not only talking about Slovakia, but about the whole world. We should learn much more humanity again.
How should I cope with the situation of more aggressive people
Every crisis we face will test our various aspects of our human existence. This crisis situation that we are facing confirms not only the readiness of our health care, but also the maturity of our civil society, and also checks the maturity of each individual.
For a long time, no one had a plan for what was actually coming to us. I, too, and frankly I did not even pay much attention to this issue at the beginning. Many still think that all the rules and arrangements are bullshit. I believe that if you have such a case in your family or in your circle of friends, it does not help to stand there with your index finger raised and say: YOU must stay at home.
Explain to people over and over again why it is important. Only then can they understand it and show insight. For many, understanding this situation simply seems impossible.
My inner feeling that I have made the maximum
When it comes to such a situation, we often want to feel that we have made the most of the given situation.I don't think we're completely helpless and we can change a lot and make a difference..We are not all just victims who are just waiting to see if the virus catches us or not. We all also have many ways of behaving under given controls. The first and most important of all is to comply with all the orders and rules that are now being made for our protection. Just swearing at governments is of no use to anyone. In hindsight, you're always smarter and they might do a lot of things differently. They, too, are just human beings!
Stay at home !
Dear people, I just want to remind you: we all pay such high rents or pay a loan back for our house in the bank. Now we have the opportunity to take full advantage of our home, relax and spend a lot of time with the family. At last we have time that we lacked before. Finally we have time for our own family, with which we may have only spent time over the weekend.
Finally we can really sleep out, what we wanted to do for so long, we can play board games together, we can also get much closer as a family, get to know each other anew. We can finally put things in order, sort out the closet with clothes, sort papers, clean windows, etc. People who have a garden can now enjoy a certain luxury.
For people who are in apartments, it is also important to go on the balcony, to freeze the windows and to soak up a little sun.
But it's very important not to go outside. Only for the most necessary!
We must always remember: how we behave today, this is what the epidemic will look like in 2-3 weeks.
Unfortunately, we are still at the beginning of the epedemic. This makes it all the more important to avoid new infections.
We must ensure that our medical staff are also protected. Those who risk their lives to help us. We too must help them. We need to make sure that the spread is slowed down so that they can do their job. It's not just corona patients. Babies are born, people suffer strokes and heart attacks – the routine operation, which is added to this.
The best protection for doctors is to stay at home and thus reduce contagion to a minimum. We owe it to them for the inhumane efforts they are currently making. A big thank you for that, but also to you, a thank you for staying at home and contributing to it.
Informations and facts
The dear media. This is a sensitive issue. I think it's important to tell people facts. Facts, but without always pushing, modifying or emotionally coloring everything.
This is something that all the media should remember.
People need information, but not tearful headlines, nor fake news. I think it's at this time that we need real, true professionals who can say information without emotional coloring.
Dealing with children and adolescents
Children perceive everything differently. It is also important to talk to children. Convene family conferences, talk about them, and let children ask.
Many children naturally lean on their role model, their own parents – so: be really a role model.
In this time of close togetherness, all the more important. Children must be your motivation to survive these circumstances. Together we can do it.
Fact and responsibility
We all don't know yet how the virus will develop, whether it will take weeks or months. I think at the moment a lot of us haven't even realised what's going on around us. We should not focus on the growing number of infected cases or on the fact that at the moment this and that does not allow me to do so. This
Thinking can be very stressful for us. The stress hormone cortisol has a bad effect on our immune system and this is to be prevented.
We should all live much more together in here and now – not in the future or in the past.
Accept what is.
Only through acceptance can such a situation be overcome without further damage. Use the time to consciously cook something good and healthy or to read an exciting book. Do something good for yourself. Bring down your stress level as much as possible.
Put aside your fears of existence and keep one thing in mind: you are not alone – this time it affects everyone.
There is always a solution to material problems. Such problems have only to do with money. It is much more important to look at health. Because we have only one health.
Many people are only now becoming fully aware of this and I hope that some people are also learning a lot from this crisis.
There has to be a rethink, because Mother Nature has once again impressively proved to us: she still has the upper hand.
In this sense: look at you, your loved ones, and look at our nature in the future.
We are just getting a demonstration of what it means to enrage them.
Stay at home - stay healthy
